Visakhapatnam Port Area
Project Summary
Visakhapatnam Port (VP) is one of India's 12 major ports and a strategic component of the country's maritime and national defence infrastructure. Supported by extensive rail, road, and water networks, the port forms an important part of India's port economy.
The Master Plan focused on redefining the existing land use plan and enhancing the valuation and utilisation of leased land. It sought to optimise land use and revenue potential while reducing entry and exit times between the port, surrounding road network, and highway system, and improving the organisation of land on both the port and city sides. The plan was informed by an assessment of available land within Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), existing leased-land uses, land requirements for stacking different commodities, and the port's rail, road, and pipeline connectivity based on traffic forecasts. Stakeholder consultations further informed the proposal, resulting in a land use framework for the port's subsequent five-year development period.
