Project Description

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed Pune Streets Programme which focuses on designing the streets using principles of ‘complete streets’ that addresses the requirements of all types of road users. PMC has planned to develop and redesign approximate 100 km road through four different packages and two phases. DPC is commissioned to design a running stretch of 30 km wherein the early Phase-I of the project will comprise a stretch of 10 km. This will include Sinhagad and Karve Road.

The existing infrastructure of these roads is poor, there are unauthorized parking along both sides of the street and there is lack of green belt along the lanes of the road. Thus, the development of the new infrastructure includes reorganising sidewalks, streets, and intersections which are laid out keeping the pedestrians in mind. Public transportation like Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), and allowing in the overall design an appropriate space for parks, cafés, street food vendors, amenity blocks, and existence of green expanse has been encouraged. While designing, the safety of all users have been kept in mind by consciously and purposely providing the mobility zones for private vehicles and public transport and physically separating them from the slow zone, which includes pedestrians and cycle tracks.
