Nikol Lake is among the identified important lakes of Ahmedabad situated near Nikol Gam, established 900 years ago. In addition to that, the lake also has cultural and domestic significance. There are structures like Temple and Dhobighat which have functions attached to the lake. Moreover, there is AMC office and Anganwadi at one of its edges. Throughout the year, various species of birds can be found here. Furthermore, the existing species of vegetation gives possible opportunity to develop an eco-reserve.

The main aim of the project was to preserve the existing ecosystem as well as facilitate neighbourhood activities. Public access to natural elements was guided by establishing various layers in design. The design also integrates different functions taking place near the lake. Since the retaining walls of Nikol Lake possess historic value, the edge is encased in identical brick masonry to prevent erosion in future.
